What do a scarecrow, a five foot chocolate Easter bunny and a glass eye have in common?
Budget hotel brand Travelodge said today that weird and wacky items customers had left behind in its rooms last year included a blue eyed cockatoo called Brexit, a five foot teddy bear made of popcorn and a doggy throne.
The hotel chain said pet owners had been particularly forgetful with three butterfly tail fish named after Kardashian sisters Kim, Kourtney and Khloe left behind at its Covent Garden branch, a pair of Persian cats called Moet and Chandon left behind in Swindon and Brexit the budgie forgotten in Brighton.
At Liverpool Central Exchange Street one guest left behind a personalised number plate that read TOTT3NH4M, it is not clear if in tribute to the mercurial football team or the north London district.
Other unlikely finds include a glass eye in Manchester’s Trafford Park, a flat pack greenhouse and a full sized scarecrow in Bristol, a doggy throne in Telford and a bottle of champagne worth more than £1,000 in London.
Business-related losses include a plan for a pop up shop in Portsmouth, a suitcase full of business books in High Wycombe and an unnamed chief executive’s lucky penny in Oxford.
Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge spokeswoman, said: “We have seen a rise this year in important business papers, valuable items and lucky charms being left behind in our hotels. This includes a chest of semi-precious jewels, a rare bottle of vintage champagne, a Coutts cheque book and a 21 year old lucky penny belonging to a CEO.
“When it comes to why so many customers forget their treasured items, there is one common theme, and that’s living in a fast & furious world. Where time is off the essence especially when getting from A to B and therefore valuable possessions are easily being forgotten.”
