Djokovic ready for battle with Nadal in bid to retain Tour title
DEFENDING champion Novak Djokovic is anticipating a thrilling ATP World Tour final when he locks horns with world No1 Rafael Nadal at the O2 Arena tonight.
Djokovic overcame Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka 6-3, 6-3 last night to join Nadal in the final after the Spaniard had earlier beaten Roger Federer 7-5, 6-3.
The Serbian’s victory was his 21st in a row, a run that stretches back to his US Open final defeat to Nadal in August. However, Djokovic did come out on top in the 38th and most recent meeting between the pair in Beijing and is looking forward to another epic dual.
“It’s going to be a great final,” he said. “I hope the crowd enjoy it because we do on the court.
“It’s always thrilling between me and Rafa. We know each other so well, so there will be no secrets on court.
“We both want to win the title and the best will.”
Nadal has extra incentive to win tonight, having never claimed the end of season title.
And his form this week has given him hope of adding the elusive silverware to his trophy cabinet.
“The most important thing is on the toughest surface for me to play I was able to win four matches against top-eight players,” said Nadal, winner of 13 grand slams.
“Now remains the last match. I know it’s going to be a difficult one, but I will try my best.”
