Djokovic prepared to sacrifice No1 ranking for 2014 grand slam haul
WORLD No2 Novak Djokovic intends to prioritise adding to his six grand slam titles next year over regaining the No1 ranking from Rafael Nadal.
The 26-year-old beat Nadal in the ATP World Tour final at the O2 Arena on Monday night to continue his sensational 22-match unbeaten run.
Djokovic, who lost his world No1 ranking last month, ends his season representing Serbia against Czech Republic in the Davis Cup final this week, which he hopes will act as a springboard to a 2014 full of silverware.
“This can serve as a great platform for the 2014 season,” said the Australian Open champion.
“I’m extra motivated and inspired to work and get myself, first of all, rested and recovered in the off-season, and then work on my game and get ready for the Australian Open.
“The only thing I’m not as satisfied about is the fact that I lost the three big matches in the three grand slams [the French Open semi-final and the finals of Wimbledon and the US Open].
“The grand slams are the tournaments where I want to win, where I want to get my hands on the title. That will be my highest priority for next year.”
