Director jailed for bribery
A FORMER senior executive of a unit of US healthcare group Johnson & Johnson was yesterday jailed for a year after helping to pay more than £4.5m in bribes to Greek doctors for their business.
Robert John Dougall – when he was vice president of Leeds-based DePuy and marketing director of DePuy International, both Johnson & Johnson units – arranged the payments over a three year period from February 2002.
Dougall did not personally gain from the slush fund and cooperated with the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) which prosecuted the case at Southwark Crown Court. SFO Director Richard Alderman said: “It is satisfying when corruption has been admitted. The offender co-operated and has been dealt with swiftly.”
