Defending champion Djokovic stays patient to reach last four
WORLD No2 Novak Djokovic booked his place in the ATP World Tour semi-finals with a three-set win over Juan Martin Del Potro at the O2 Arena last night.
Following former world No1 Roger Federer’s 6-4, 6-3 win over Richard Gasquet earlier in the day, which eliminated the Frenchman, Djokovic triumphed 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
And the reigning champion admitted he had to stay patient to score his second win of the week, with break point chances proving scarce for both players.
“There were very few breaks of serve because the surface is fast,” Djokovic said. “All three sets were decided at 3-2, that’s where the breaks came.
“His big serve gives him an advantage, so I was pleased to get back and close it out because Del Potro is having one of the best seasons of his career.”
Spain’s David Ferrer takes on world No8 Stanislas Wawrinka in the afternoon session today.
And should the Swiss player win he will hope Rafael Nadal can beat Tomas Berdych in the evening session to reach last four.
