Davies says no to Lloyds
LORD Davies, the former chief executive of Standard Chartered Bank, has been asked whether he might consider taking the same position at Lloyds Banking Group.
Davies, who held a government role until the election, was asked the question by Lloyds chairman Sir Win Bischoff at a recent meeting, revealed first by Sky News. Davies gave no encouragement to Lloyds and friends said last night he has received several offers for his services which he is considering.
“The two men talked about a lot of things and Davies was asked whether he would consider becoming a potential candidate to be the long-term successor to current Lloyds chief executive Eric Daniels,” City sources told City A.M. last night.
Lloyds Bank, which is returning to profitability after a disastrous period following the acquisition of HBOS, said: “Our board led by Sir Win is fully behind Eric Daniels. Under Eric’s strong leadership we are making substantial progress and look forward to delivering significant shareholder value..”
