David Shaw to chair Mayfair’s Pollen Estate
MAYFAIR landlord The Pollen Estate has appointed the head of The Crown Estate’s Regent Street portfolio, David Shaw, as chairman.
The Pollen Estate owns 43 properties on some of London’s most sought-after shopping streets including Savile Row and Bond Street, with tenants including jeweller Chopard.
It has some 120 beneficiaries, including The Crown Estate, which bought a 64 per cent stake in the estate last year for £381m in partnership with Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM).
Shaw, who is already a non-executive director, will take up the role of chairman at the beginning of August, the board announced today.
He will continue his role at The Crown Estate and as a non-executive director of the New West End Company.
A retail property veteran, Shaw has worked for The Crown Estate, which owns and manages £11bn of property on behalf of the Queen, since 2002.
Over the last decade, he has overseen a £1bn scheme to revitalise Regent Street and played a key role in forming the Regent Street partnership in 2011, which saw NBIM buy a 25 per cent stake in the shopping street.
Shaw was previously a board director of The Burton Group, now Arcadia, and was awarded an OBE in the 2014 New Year’s Honours list for services to the retail industry and voluntary service, particularly for his work with the Orpheus Foundation, which supports young musicians.
