Daley misses out on world glory on his return to Olympic Park
OLYMPIC bronze medallist Tom Daley conceded failure to overcome his “nemesis” cost him a place on the podium in the FINA Diving World Series at the London Aquatics Centre in Stratford yesterday.
The 19-year-old qualified second from the earlier 10m Platform semi-final, but could not give the sell-out crowd the finish they wanted, placing fifth in the final after struggling to execute his second dive – a back two and a half somersault with a two and a half twist.
Daley said: “The atmosphere was amazing and it was a little frustrating with that twisting dive because its always been my nemesis dive and it’s something I’m working on. If my twister had gone well, I’d have been looking at a bronze medal there probably, so it’s a little frustrating.
“The rest of my dives are better than they have been for a long time so it’s just a matter of getting my twister right now.”
Britain’s Tonia Couch finished sixth in the women’s 10m platform, Sarah Barrow was knocked out in the semi-final, while 17-year-old Dan Goodfellow was fourth in his 10m semi-final.
