[Re: US-China rhetoric won’t save our climate woes if Beijing stays hooked on coal, November 12]
It is depressing that countries such as China, India and Russia appear unwilling to stop burning coal within timescales necessary to prevent catastrophic climate change.
At the same time, other countries are continuing to allow large scale deforestation of the planet’s tropical and temperate rainforests for new agriculture.
Surely the time has come for law makers and legislators to require all retailers to very clearly label the countries of origin where imported goods for sale have been manufactured, or where imported foods have been produced.
In this way, consumers would have a proper opportunity to boycott all goods and food produce from countries which are prioritising their short-term economic self-interests over the long-term survival of the planet.
Co-ordinated national and international boycotts of their imports might force these countries to revisit their priorities, while there is still time for them to do so.

[Re: New Covid restrictions would make it official policy to pray for a better day, yesterday]
Paul Ormerod’s piece seems to forget that vaccines are not the end of the road for Covid, but other treatment options such as Pfizer antiviral pill will hopefully save the day.
