Culture Secretary says social media has been ‘hijacked’ by left-wing activists
Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries said people have become afraid to say what they think for fear of being “cancelled”.
In her first TV interview since taking the role, she criticised online campaigners for frightening young people from engaging in debate.
She told the BBC that she left-wing activists have “hijacked” social media.
Last month, The Observer described Dorries as the “minister for culture wars”, which has openly denied.
The coming year will see Dorries examine whether the government privatises Channel 4, scrutiny of the Online Safety Bill and determining the BBC’s funding.
On Friday, Dorries announced a further £107m as part of the Culture Recovery Fund to help almost 1,000 arts and heritage organisations continue their recovery from the pandemic.
