Crossrail 2 gets a boost as 95 per cent back the new railway
CROSSRAIL 2, the mooted cross-city line between south west and north east London, got a boost today when it was revealed that 95 per cent of the city supports the idea.
Transport for London received almost 14,000 responses to a consultation on the proposal, the vast majority of which were positive.
Just two per cent said they opposed or strongly opposed the principle of the railway.
Boris Johnson is lobbying for the route to be built once the first Crossrail link, which will run from west to east London, is complete in 2019.
“People can clearly see the immense value of a project that will relieve pressure on suburban rail routes and on the Underground, as well as helping to spur economic growth in a key quadrant of the capital,” the mayor said in a statement.
“In addition, if HS2 goes ahead, Crossrail 2 would provide a vital interchange at Euston which would be under significant strain from greater passenger numbers.”
Transport for London and Network Rail will now pore over the findings of the consultation before making a recommendation to the Mayor next spring.
