Cook denies Hales demotion for Moeen reveals World Cup clues
ENGLAND skipper Alastair Cook insists the decision to drop power-hitting opener Alex Hales from today’s clash against Sri Lanka A does not end the expansive batsman’s hopes of featuring in next year’s World Cup.
Hales made his one-day international debut alongside Cook at the top of the order against India in the summer but is set to be replaced by all-rounder Moeen Ali for the first of two warm-up games ahead of England’s seven-match series against Sri Lanka.
“It was a real tough call on Alex at the moment but that’s nowhere near our final decision,” said Cook. “This is for this one game here and we will see how it goes.”
