Kurobuta London’s controversial sign at Mayfair restaurant pits East against West
Kurobuta, the sleek and exclusive oriental eatery just off Mayfair, has made an enemy of a section of London’s Japanese community after locals discovered a sign in the restaurant’s window advertises something other than sashimi.
Readers of Japanese language local newspaper Japan Journals wrote in horror after discovering that the sign for the restaurant, founded and led by Aussie chef Scott Hallsworth, does not invite Londoners in for a ceremonial tea service in Japanese, but instead boasts that there are “prostitutes” and “b*tches” available for hire.
Of course, the sign does not seriously advertise ladies of the night. Hallsworth told The Capitalist: “In no way at all is this sign meant to cause offence, but to be viewed simply, as art!” But this hasn’t stopped some of London’s Japanese community from getting wound up.
Japan Journals MD Mr Tejima wrote to The Capitalist in a plea for sanity. He said that the “distasteful” sign was “an open insult to the Japanese nation”. Oooooooh!
FASHIONISTAS SEEKING ELIGIBLE FINANCIERS
Have you ever wanted to finalise a business transaction and find love at the same time? Well now you can, as elite matchmakers Social Concierge are teaming up with Covent Garden’s Library Members Club to introduce high-flyers in the fashion world to the City’s banking bosses.
The “Fashion and Finance” event at the Library club is sticking its tongue out to those who say that LinkedIn is not an appropriate way to chirpse a member of the opposite sex. Social Concierge founder Nana Wereko-Brobby said that guests of the new monthly social will actually be “vetted by their LinkedIn accounts” to make sure things go off without a hitch.
Next month, the new club’s launch will see senior staff from Burberry, Net-a-Porter and Topman get a chance to talk serious business with bosses at Barclays, Citi, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs. They just so happen to be single too…
