Contemporary luxury comes to the North Bank: The Westminster penthouses that are challenging traditional power architecture
Westminster has drawn the pious and powerful for a millennia, but the only homes to service them seem to be stuffy period numbers with no central heating and little natural light. Sure, there’s plenty of Old England charm in a Georgian terrace, but it’s hardly the height of modern luxury anymore.
Recently, new build developers have moved into the area to challenge the status quo, re-branding the Thameside leading up to Westminster Bridge “North Bank”. Barratt London, for instance, has moved into Marsham Street, where they’ve converted an old office block into contemporary apartments. Keen to get the show on the road, it offered all buyers of studios and one-bedroom apartments £26,000 in complementary furnishings last month.
Needless to say, the new homes are raring to go and none more so than the five duplex penthouses that went on sale yesterday. Each of the three-bedroom homes also come with perks, namely two underground parking spaces and outside terraces that run the full length of the apartments. One penthouse even has an en-suite bathroom set high up in the building’s turret.
A penthouse show home is now available to browse, too, designed by London-based interior designers at Red Zebrano, who went for a “contemporary colonial feel” by sourcing furnishings and artwork from around the world.
