Confident City workers look for greener pastures
IN A SIGN of increasing confidence in the jobs market, more City workers are beginning to get itchy feet, new research reveals today.
The number of professionals looking for work in the City of London climbed 17 per cent in August compared with July, according to figures given exclusively to City A.M. by recruiter Robert Walters.
There has been an influx onto recruiters’ books of project candidates that help firms adjust to new regulations.
Compliance specialists have been drawn to the market by high salaries, caused by greater demand for their services amid the constantantly changing regulatory environment.
Firms are also growing in confidence, with the number of vacancies so far this year up 18 per cent on the same period last year.
“Essentially, we are seeing a return to pre-recession sustainable growth which in turn is providing a favourable jobs market for candidates,” Robert Walters managing director Colin Loth told City A.M.
“Despite uncertainty around the global impact of the economic situation in China, the trends for 2015 so far have shown a City well on the road to full recovery.”
There is currently high demand for sales and marketing professionals – a sign employers are looking to increase the amount of business they do.
The number of vacancies for sales and marketing professionals was 21 per cent higher in August compared with the same month last year.
“The level of demand for sales and marketing professionals is often an indication of wider confidence among employers. When firms are looking to grow, professionals responsible for acquiring new business are vital and the fact that employers are actively seeking staff with these skill sets is a very positive sign,” Loth said.
