CITY VIEWS: HAVE YOU NOTICED THAT CONSUMER PRICE INFLATION HAS INCREASED?
JONATHAN RANDLE | PTS CONSULTING
“Not particularly. In my general shopping I haven’t seen any difference, though I’m quite frivolous with my money anyway. Inflation is something I expect to see going forward, when quantitative easing is reversed. I sold my car to get a cheaper one earlier this year, to save a bit of money just in case inflation rose.”
LAETITIA TOMASSO | LLOYDS TSB
“No, as I don’t go shopping much at the moment because of the market conditions. I haven’t noticed it being more expensive when I’ve been food shopping. When I go back to France, the prices there have gone up by a lot more. I expected inflation to return at some point.”
KEITH THOMPSON | STANDARD BANK
“I think it’s definitely more expensive now, relative to other countries that haven’t seen prices rise by quite so much. The general cost of living, rail fares – they are all going up, there is no doubt. And a lot of price increases are worsened by stealth taxes. It’s not too bad, as interest rates have been very low for a while now.
