Reed Smith
The law firm has hired advertising law expert Marina Palomba to its partnership.
Palomba joins the firm’s advertising group in London from the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA), where she has been legal director for eight years, advising all the main agencies in the UK including M&C Saatchi, Abbott Mead Vickers and JWT. She brings with her two former colleagues at the IPA, Christopher Hackford and Huw Morris.
Turquoise
The trading platform, now majority owned by the London Stock Exchange group, has confirmed its new management team following its merger with the LSE’s Baikal dark pool facility.
Adrian Farnham, who joined Turquoise in 2007 from Morgan Stanley, will be chief operating officer. Natan Tiefenbrun will be commercial director, a role he also previously held at Baikal. Mark Ryland, Baikal’s head of technology, will continue in that role, while Anthony Ball will be chief financial officer, having joined Turquoise in 2008 with experience at City Index, ABN Amro and Kleinwort Benson.
HSBC Private Bank
The private bank has appointed Anna Blomqvist and Mark Winterburn as investment advisers and Clare Huijen as an investment counsellor.
Blomqvist has over 12 years of institutional sales and capital markets experience at Merrill Lynch and Bank of America, where she most recently launched and built up its US equities business in Scandinavia.
Winterburn joins from Citi Private Bank, where he has been an investment counsellor for the past five years, while Huijen previously worked in the portfolio management unit at Clariden Leu.
Liberum Capital
The independent investment banking group has poached Derek Brown and Ben Bourne from rivals Seymour Pierce and Oriel Securities, to boost its UK small and mid-cap research team.
Brown was previously head of equity research and a technology analyst at Seymour Pierce, while Bourne was an industrials analyst at Oriel.
Société Générale
Mark Capleton and Valentin Marinov are to join the bank’s fixed income and forex strategy cross asset research team in London.
Capleton joins as head of UK rates strategy and global inflation-linked strategy from Royal Bank of Scotland, where he was head of European rates research. Marinov becomes a senior forex strategist, a role he also formerly held at Commerzbank.
Dechert
Martin Day, a former joint head of the investment management practice of Linklaters, has joined the law firm’s London financial services practice.
