Heartwood
The wealth manager has hired Michael Stanes as an investment director, playing a key role in the asset allocation process as well as managing portfolios for ultra high net worth clients.
Stanes previously spent 15 years at Mercury Asset Management / Merrill Lynch Investment Managers and then joined Goldman Sachs Asset Management as an executive director. More recently, he was chief executive of a privately-owned London investment office.
Merchant Securities
The financial services group has appointed Lindsay Mair, one of the most well-known figures in the small cap space, as head of UK small cap sales and research.
Mair was most recently managing director at Astaire Securities, having previously headed up the corporate finance business at Daniel Stewart.
Merchant has also hired Chris Smith to establish its coverage of financials. Smith most recently worked for Jefferies International and, earlier in his career, was the top-ranked financials analyst while working at HSBC James Capel.
UBS
The investment bank has appointed Anthony Iliya as chief executive of its operations in the Middle East and North Africa.
Iliya, 56, will start on 1 August and be based in Dubai. He was most recently executive vice-chairman and head of asset management at Credit Suisse in Hong Kong.
TD Waterhouse
The execution-only broker has appointed Paul Whitehead, currently a senior vice president at TD Wealth Management, as its new chief executive. He succeeds Angus Rigby, who will be relocating to Canada to become senior vice president of products and services at TD Wealth Management.
Arbuthnot Latham
Richard Dunn is to join the private bank as commercial director, reporting to chief executive Dean Proctor.
Dunn joins from Santander, where he was commercial director for the group’s private bank, and has also worked for Robert Fleming & Co, JP Morgan and Cater Allen Private Bank during his 25-year career in the City.
