Bargate Murray
The City law firm has appointed Jonathan Lea as a senior associate in the corporate department. He will focus on developing relationships with the technology and digital media companies establishing themselves around the Silicon Roundabout area, as well as traditional corporate advisory work. Lea trained at Clyde & Co and has spent his career practising in London, Cornwall and Dubai. He specialises in next-generation web businesses, M&A, equity finance, joint ventures and intangible property.
Pan African
Cyril Ramaphosa has resigned as non-executive chairman of the precious metals producer, but remains executive chairman of Shanduka Group, Pan African’s largest shareholder. He is replaced by Keith Spencer, currently deputy non-executive chairman, who becomes independent non-executive chairman. Phuti Malabie, chief executive of the Shanduka Group, succeeds Spencer as deputy non-executive chairman, and Busi Sitole has been appointed as chief financial officer to succeed Cobus Loots, who remains on the board as a non-executive director.
Reyl Asset Management
Senior fund manager Gilles Pradère has joined Reyl as a senior fund manager in the fixed income team. Pradère previously worked at Calyon.
Barclays
Barclays Corporate has strengthened its asset finance offering with three new hires. Richard Pretty joins from IBM Global Financing as a relationship director in the strategic asset finance team, Rodney McCann joins from Lombard as a regional sales director in Northern Ireland, and Rob Cox joins from Asset Advantage as a relationship director.
Royal Bank of Canada
Josh Critchley, head of equity capital markets (ECM) and corporate broking at Royal Bank of Canada, has been promoted to co-head of investment banking in Europe. Critchley will continue as head of ECM and corporate broking.
First State
First State Investments has appointed two new sector investors for its London-based global equities team. Julie Thomas joins from Oriel Securities to specialise in financial stocks, and Ben Yeoh joins from Atlantic Equities to specialise in healthcare stocks.
Standard Bank
Mark Fox has joined Standard Bank’s fixed income and currency sales team in the global markets division as head of London buyside, based in London. He will be responsible for serving the European specialist emerging markets fixed income client base. Fox joins from Jefferies, where he was European head of emerging market fixed income sales.
