City Moves for Thursday 10 January: Who’s switching jobs at Newton Investment Management, Kirkland & Ellis and KPMG?
Newton Investment Management
Newton Investment Management (Newton IM), part of BNY Mellon Investment Management (BNY Mellon IM), announced the appointment of Jin Philips as head of strategic relationships EMEA. In this role, Jin will be responsible for directing Newton IM’s sales strategy across UK institutional and charity channels and EMEA-partnered distribution relationships.
Jin will report to Julian Lyne, chief commercial officer at Newton IM. Jin previously worked at Newton IM for five years, from 2008 to 2013, initially as institutional relationship manager for Asia, Middle East and Europe, and latterly as co-head of North America.
She rejoins the business from Secureinsights, a management consultancy, where she was a consultant in the client strategy and solutions business.
Kirkland & Ellis
Kirkland & Ellis International announced that leading private equity attorney Adrian Maguire will join the firm’s London office as a corporate partner.
Adrian advises private equity clients on all transactions throughout the full lifecycle of their investments, from acquisition to exit. Adrian is ranked in Band 1 in Chambers UK for Private Equity: Buyouts, where he is described as a “leading light in the private equity space” and “the subject of praise from across the market”.
He is also named as a leading individual in The Legal 500: UK for Private Equity: Transactions. Adrian joins Kirkland from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he was a partner. The move means he will rejoin private equity partner David Higgins who moved from Freshfields to Kirkland last year on a widely reported $10m-a-year deal.
KPMG
Global business advisory firm KPMG has hired a new partner to its tax disputes team and new directors to its transfer pricing division in the UK as it looks to meet rising demand with more integrated legal and tax services for clients.
Angela Savin joins the disputes and investigations team as partner, having worked at Norton Rose Fulbright as a tax partner and specialising in the resolution of tax disputes, overseeing some significant and complex cases.
Kriti Velji and Nick Stevart both join as directors in the transfer pricing team having worked on competent authority engagement at the New Zealand and the UK Tax authorities respectively.
The announcement follows the recent hire of international tax director Jennifer Cooper, who joined KPMG from EY, Alla Fokina who joined as a transfer pricing director from PwC and Trevor Danks, a transfer pricing director who returns to KPMG after spending time in industry.
