Carter Jonas
Carter Jonas has recruited Paul Astbury as a partner and new head of compulsory purchase, working within its infrastructure team. Paul, who will be based out of Carter Jonas’ HQ in London, will work closely with the planning and development teams across the country, providing a market-leading compulsory purchase service to local authorities and developers on UK-wide regeneration schemes. He joins from GL Hearn, where he worked for 10 years. As head of compulsory purchase, he advised developers and promoters on the securing of compulsory purchase powers, and acquiring land in advance of powers to reduce risk and shorten the overall development programme. Prior to that, Astbury spent 16 years at Transport for London, leading its Crossrail property team.
Bristows
London-based law firm Bristows LLP has announced that Stephen Smith has joined as a partner in the competition team. Steve, the current vice president of the competition section of the Law Society, and one of The Lawyer’s Hot 100 for 2016, joins Bristows after five years at RPC, where he founded and headed the competition and anti-trust practice. Steve has a broad practice encompassing merger control, cartels and anti-trust investigations. He has advised numerous clients in the telecommunications and technology sectors and has also previously spent time at the communications regulator Ofcom.
Reactive Technologies
Smart grid and demand-side management company Reactive Technologies has appointed Jens Madrian as both chief financial officer and chief commercial officer. Jens will officially take up his dual role on 1 June. His main responsibilities will include driving the strategic, financial and commercial development and growth of the company in the UK and overseas. Jens joins Reactive Technologies from RWE npower, where he was also CFO. He also worked for RWE in finance and M&A in continental Europe.
Fraser Yachts
Fraser Yachts, the luxury yacht service provider, is has appointed Raphael Sauleau as its chief executive. Raphael previously worked for 15 years at VShips, a global maritime service provider, first as executive director of crew operations for the leisure division worldwide and at a later stage also of the cargo division in Monaco where he was in charge of 60 shore staff and 6,500 crew. At the end of 2013, he left VShips to become the CEO of a family office in Monaco, operating a number of properties for the Parkview Private Collection in St Tropez, London and Beijing and several yachts including the mega yacht Saluzi.
