Dame Judith Hackitt, who is stepping down as chair of the Health and Safety Executive at the end of March, has been appointed as chair designate of EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation. She will take up the post on 4 April, replacing Martin Temple, who will step down after more than 17 years as director general and then chairman of the 120-year-old body. A chemical engineer by profession, Judith became a Dame in the 2016 New Year Honours.
Walker Morris
Law firm Walker Morris has expanded its corporate group with the appointment of new partner Daniel O’Gorman. Daniel joins from DWF where he was national head of the equity capital markets group. He has particular experience in international and cross-border M&A for corporate and private equity clients. Daniel brings over 18 years' experience of working in the City, having previously spent 10 years at Travers Smith. He has a national reputation as a leading lawyer for IPOs and equity fundraising transactions and is ranked by both the Legal 500 and Chambers guides to the legal profession. He has advised on the acquisition by Laborie Medical Technologies of Medical Measurement Systems.
Peel Hunt
Steven Fine, managing partner and head of equities at Peel Hunt since 2006, has been named as chief executive, with effect from 1 July 2016. Steven will succeed Simon Hayes, chief executive of the corporate broking, advisory and trading house since 2006, who will step up to the role of chairman, replacing Darren Carter, who will remain on the board. In 2010, Simon and Steven led the buyout of Peel Hunt from previous owner KBC Group in a deal worth £74m. Under their leadership, Peel Hunt has increased its corporate client roster from 37 clients in 2010, with an average market cap of less than £100m, to 108 clients today (averaging over £300m in market cap). During the same period, Peel Hunt has grown staff numbers from 140 to 180.
Stratex International
Exploration and development company Stratex International has appointed Chris Worcester to its board as an independent non-executive director, with effect from today. Chris began his City career in 1993 at Barclays de Zoete Wedd, where he worked in the metals and mining project finance team. In 2000, he joined the Royal Bank of Scotland as director and head of financial modelling and analysis, leaving in 2002 to join WestLB Capital Markets. Since 2007, Chris has been actively involved in securing funding and investment for resource companies through private, specialist corporate finance company Stone Arch Financial and, more recently, Green Road Capital.
