Onfido
Global identity-verification provider Onfido announced it has hired Mohan Mahadevan as its vice-president of research. The former head of computer vision and machine learning for robotic applications at Amazon will lend his expertise to Onfido’s 250-strong team of technologists across San Francisco, New York, London, Lisbon, Delhi and Singapore and Paris. An expert in computer vision, machine learning, AI and data and model interpretability, Mohan previously led research efforts at Amazon and KLA-Tencor.
He has over 15 patents in areas spanning optical architectures, algorithms, system design, automation, robotics and packaging technologies. Mohan will lead Onfido’s team of specialist machine learning scientists and engineers, based out of London. Mohan will focus on building out the system around machine learning and continuing to improve its performance in production.
Brewdog
Independent craft brewer Brewdog has appointed Andy Shaw to the newly created role of chief executive officer for beer. Andy brings with him a vast wealth of experience, having served 14 years in various senior roles at Red Bull, most recently as managing director of Red Bull UK. Previous roles at Red Bull included MD of Spain and Portugal, and sales and marketing manager for Europe.
At Brewdog, Andy will be responsible for the global sales and marketing of beer. The role of chief executive officer for beer was formed in order to provide additional senior strategic leadership as Brewdog enters a period of accelerated growth domestically and internationally.
Mastercard
Mastercard today announced the appointment of Paul Stoddart as president, new payment platforms, effective 1 March 2019. Stoddart succeeds David Yates, who will transition into a senior advisory role focused on real-time national and cross-border payments strategies. In this role, Stoddart will oversee the development and strategic integration of Mastercard’s real-time payments capabilities beyond traditional card-based solutions. Among these solutions are Vocalink account-based payments, the Homesend joint venture and Mastercard Send.
In 2017, Stoddart was named chief executive officer of Vocalink following the company’s acquisition by Mastercard. He originally joined Vocalink as managing director, responsible for strategy, corporate development and its UK and international product portfolios. Prior to Vocalink, Stoddart was responsible for mergers and acquisitions and asset disposal at Barclaycard. Earlier in his career, he spent 12 years at RBS.
