Marex Spectron
Marex Spectron has announced the appointment of Carla Stent as non-executive chair of the group board. Carla, who has sat on the board for the past four years and was until recently chair of the audit and compliance committee, takes over from Simon Heale, who stood down in December. Carla has extensive executive and non-executive international experience across financial services, principally banking and private equity, as well as retail and travel. Her current board roles include the Post Office, JP Morgan Elect, Savernake Capital Group and Power to Change. She has also served on the boards of Change Alliance, Christian Aid, The Young Women’s Trust, and Virgin, amongst others. From 2010 to 2013, Carla was chief operating officer and partner at Virgin. She was previously deputy chief financial officer and chief administrative officer of the global retail and commercial bank arm of Barclays. From 2000 to 2004, at Thomas Cook, she held a variety of roles, including operations director, as well as director of group strategy and corporate finance.
Digital Catapult
Digital Catapult has announced that Juergen Maier CBE is appointed as its new chair. He will succeed Andy Green from May. Juergen Maier is the UK chief executive officer of Siemens and is a passionate technology and manufacturing advocate. Juergen joined Siemens in 1986. Having led the Made Smarter review, Juergen is well positioned to steer the UK’s leading advanced digital innovation centre toward future industrial opportunities. He now co-chairs the Made Smarter Commission responsible for delivering policy to support industrial digitalisation with business secretary Greg Clark. Juergen was previously a member of the high value manufacturing catapult board and was a non-executive director at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (now Beis).
Clifford Chance
Clifford Chance has appointed Tiernan Brady as its first global head of inclusion. Tiernan brings extensive experience in developing effective equalities strategies, having been integral to the successful campaigns for equal marriage rights in Ireland and Australia. His role at Clifford Chance will focus on tackling the full spectrum of inclusion and diversity issues. Tiernan was formerly executive director of the Equality Campaign where he designed and led the campaign strategy for the successful vote in favour of marriage equality in Australia which passed in November 2017. This followed his role as a political director for Yes Equality, the main campaign vehicle for the same vote in Ireland which passed in 2015.
