Some 50 firefighters and eight fire engines are reportedly on the scene, which is just off of busy Carnaby Street in Soho.
The London Fire Brigade's Nic Myatt, one of those on the scene, said to the Evening Standard that "crews did exceptionally well and worked incredibly hard in arduous conditions to stop this fire from spreading to other parts of the building and to contain it to what was quite a large basement area."
