Cineworld in sales boost from 3D films
CINEWORLD yesterday reported booming sales as filmgoers flocked to see the latest 3D Blockbusters including Toy Story 3.
Total sales for the 42 weeks ending 21 October were up 8.5 per cent, compared with the same period the previous year. Box office takings were ahead 8.3 per cent as moviegoers went in their numbers to its 801 screens.
The company’s results for the first half of 2010 saw revenues up 3.8 per cent to £162m and box office takings up 4.1 per cent to £111.7m. Cineworld said films like Shrek Forever and Toy Story 3 had been hits and that it had enjoyed “a healthy performance since the end of June”. The final quarter of the financial year has a film line-up, including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows; Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Tron. The company added: “The remaining 2010 film line-up gives us confidence in delivering continued growth for the full-year.”
