Cineworld box office takings fall
Revenues at the UK’s biggest multiplex cinema chain Cineworld have fallen 8.9 per cent in the last five months to 12 May.
The company said trading for the year was affected because there were no major 3D releases during the year after the success of Avatar and Alice in Wonderland in the comparative period last year.
Cineworld’s box office sales have fallen 7.8 per cent compared with last year, but outperformed the UK and Ireland cinema industry as a whole, where box office sales were 9.5 per cent lower. Cineworld said it expects a stronger line up of films in the remainder of this year and is confident it will meet full-year market expectations.
