China state visit: Xi Jingping visits Manchester City Football academy and announces new flights
Chinese President Xi Jingping will wrap up his four-day state visit to Britain in Manchester today, where he and Prime Minister David Cameron will announce more business deals, including new direct flights from Manchester Airport to China.
The UK government estimates the new flight path will add £50m to Manchester’s economy.
Other partnerships set to be agreed include a £4m construction partnership for the Middlewood Locks regeneration project in Manchester, and the £84.8m acquisition of Blackburn-based educational supplies company Promethean World by a Hong Kong-based firm.
Cameron and Xi are also expected to visit Manchester City Football academy today and meet current and former Manchester City and Manchester United players.
