China says 18 more people held over bribery claims against GSK
CHINESE authorities have detained at least 18 people as part of an investigation into pharma group GlaxoSmithKline, according to state media.
China’s state radio said police had “recently held, in accordance with the law, 18 GlaxoSmithKline (China) employees and some medical personnel”.
A spokesperson for Glaxo declined to comment yesterday.
Chief executive Andrew Witty said last week that some of its staff appear to have broken laws in China and that the firm was co-operating fully with the authorities.
China’s Xinhua news agency said GSK employees were “suspected of offering bribes to doctors, asking them to prescribe more drugs in order to grow sales volume, and in the meantime pushing up drug prices”.
