Chief execs on Youtube: Two different takes
ROBERT Walters is the chief executive of Robert Walters Plc, the London-listed global recruitment giant. To accompany his firm’s latest set of results yesterday, Walters took to YouTube, revealing himself to be the very model of a typical boss. He’s suited, booted and speaks direct to camera. No gimmicks, no whizzy digitals – just good, old-fashioned explaining.
Now contrast this with the newly-appointed boss of Standard Chartered, Bill Winters, who appeared last year in a YouTube video featuring five top City executives – including Icap’s Michael Spencer – making fun of themselves by stripping off and singing during a comedy sketch.
Winters is featured doing a falsetto that could shatter glass while undoing his shirt to reveal a hairless chest. Entitled “Life’s a Pitch”, the video was part of a fundraising effort for the Young Vic theatre but was never supposed to go public.
It was intended to be seen by only 400 people who attended a special screening. Private? In the age of camera phones and t’interweb? You’re havin’ a giraffe, mate. To view the embarrassing video, simply go to… www.cityam.com/bill-winters-video
