Chelsea’s golden boys maintain their dominance of FA Youth Cup
CHELSEA’S insatiable pursuit of silverware continued with the retention of the FA Youth Cup last night following a 2-1 victory over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
Leading 3-1 from the first leg, the hosts were rocked by an early opener from City’s Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho on his Youth Cup debut, before attacking prodigies Izzy Brown and Tammy Abraham, with his 37th goal of the season, retaliated.
The youngsters, currently managed by Joe Edwards, have appeared in four successive FA Youth Cup finals, while their 5-2 aggregate victory means they have now been crowned champions four times in six seasons after securing a sixth tournament title in their history.
Chelsea’s success in the FA Youth Cup follows hot on the heels of the club’s under-19 side, which included the vast majority of the players on show last night, winning the UEFA Youth League in Switzerland earlier this month.
