Chefs look to have good grouse
COUNTRY commuters will know that grouse shooting season starts next week. The team at the City and Canary Wharf’s Boisdale Restaurants, not content with leaving it in the home counties, kicked the season off in style.
Yesterday saw UK restaurant world’s greats take part in an afternoon of clay pigeon shooting at the Balvenie Great British Game Restaurant Shooting Cup hosted by Boisdale Restaurants at the West London Shooting School.
Mark Edwards of Mayfair’s Nobu was crowned champion, and prizes ranged from bespoke whisky to a handmade tweed jacket. Jolly good!
■ UKIP deputy chairman Suzanne Evans has said that she is vying to be her party’s candidate for mayor of London. But Evans – who wrote Ukip’s General Election manifesto only to be nearly sacked by the party for calling Nigel Farage a “very divisive character”– admitted yesterday that she did not think a “Kipper” would be taking the keys to City Hall, telling LBC radio: “Let’s be realistic, I don’t think London is going to have a Ukip mayor any time soon.” Evans is set to square off against Ukip culture spokesman Peter Whittle and Richard Hendron, an LGBT rights activist, for the party’s candidacy. When the Capitalist called Ukip HQ yesterday, nobody seemed to know how the party’s candidate would be selected. But one hopeful said that the contenders would face off in a multi-day “assessment” with “all sorts of tests” to determine the winner. Let the games begin…
