The Mencap Step Up Challenge: Charity runners conquer 1,672 steps to top of the Walkie Talkie
Sundays are normally reserved for lazing around the house, doing chores or spending the afternoon in the pub. But not for the energetic fundraisers who ploughed through a charity fun run in the City yesterday.
The Mencap Step Up Challenge saw participants run up three of the capital’s tallest buildings – ending with a dash up the 1,672 steps of Walkie Talkie building on Fenchurch Street. The 6.1km run was organised by Mencap in conjunction with Land Securities.
“We saw a lot of tired faces but can’t thank them and our charity partner Land Securities enough for allowing the event to happen,” Mencap’s Paddy Griffiths said.
One highlight for runners afterwards: everyone was treated to a post-run glass of champers in the Walkie Talkie Sky Garden.
