Champions League: Real urged to attack in Munich despite semi-final advantage
REAL MADRID 1 BAYERN MUNICH 0
REAL Madrid defender Sergio Ramos believes his team cannot afford to rest on their one-goal advantage in Munich next week if they are to reach the Champions League final.
A first-half goal from Karim Benzema decided last night’s semi-final first leg at the Bernabeu, but Ramos wants his team to adopt an attacking mentality in order to overcome the holders.
He said: “We have to go for the victory in the second leg, because the 1-0 lead may not be enough. We’ll go to Munich humbly, with this good result, but with hope.”
After Bayern dominated possession in the opening exchanges, Real took the lead on
19 minutes when Benzema turned in Fabio Coentrao’s perfectly placed low cross.
Bayern probed continuously in response but were made to wait until the 84th minute for their best chance, with Mario Gotze’s seeing his pot-shot beaten away by goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
Bayern boss Pep Guardiola said: “We did everything we could. We controlled the game, but we can’t win every week.”
