Cesc: Barca boss is my idol
ARSENAL captain Cesc Fabregas has given Barcelona food for thought by admitting boss Pep Guardiola is his idol.
The Gunners midfielder has been constantly linked with a return to Camp Nou, where he began his career as a youth.
Guardiola, at that time, was a Barcelona playing legend and has since taken the manager’s role with the Catalan giants, leading them to Champions League success against Manchester United last month.
But while confessing his admiration for the Barca chief, Spanish international Fabregas insists he has received no contact from his former club. “If that happened it would be unusual, but nothing has happened,” the 22-year-old said.
“Pep has always been my idol. I have always played in his position and wear the number four like him. He was my hero when I was young and the one I have tried to be like.
“I tried to imitate what he did as a player and now as a coach he is showing how good he is. He is someone that will always be important in my life.”
But while the link with Barcelona won’t go away, Fabregas remains focused on ending Arsenal’s four-year run without a trophy.
“I want to win and I am happy at Arsenal, but we have four years without any success and for a player that wants to win things that is a long time,” he added.
“Now I would really like to lift a trophy as captain of the Gunners.”
