Celtic decline Legia request
CELTIC last night dismissed suggestions from Legia Warsaw that they contest a one-off match to decide who enters the final Champions League qualifying round as “disappointing”.
The Scottish title winners were reinstated into the competition at the expense of Legia, who beat them 6-1 over two legs last week, because the Polish side were found to have used an ineligible player.
Legia owner Dariusz Mioduski yesterday called on Celtic to offer them a sporting chance in accordance with “the spirit of the game”. A Celtic spokesperson replied: “We are disappointed by Legia Warsaw’s comments. This is entirely a matter for [football’s European governing body] Uefa and its processes.”
