Carphone Warehouse sales rise despite French decline
CARPHONE Warehouse today posted a 10.6 per cent increase in first-quarter sales, despite a 15.1 per cent revenue decline in its joint venture Virgin Mobile France.
The mobile retailer said that its UK division benefited from the continued shift towards high-end smartphones, which drive higher revenue per connection.
Fierce competition in the French market and a lower customer base impacted revenues from its joint venture with Virgin Group in the country.
“We have enjoyed a good first quarter with strong like-for-like revenue and connections growth, and we are reiterating the guidance we gave when we presented our final results for 2012-13 in late June,” said chief executive Roger Taylor.
“Postpay sales in the UK were particularly strong, continuing the momentum of the previous quarter, as our offers and service continue to resonate with the customer.”
