Cardiff keen on completing shock return for Halfpenny
CARDIFF Blues chief executive Richard Holland says he would jump at the chance to re-sign Leigh Halfpenny, with the No10’s future at Toulon in doubt.
The British and Irish Lions fly-half switched from his native Wales to the back-to-back Heineken Cup champions in the summer, but is yet to make his debut in the Top 14 due to a groin injury.
It has led Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal to admit an internal investigation is being conducted to decipher the severity of Halfpenny’s injury and when it was suffered with the possibility of “denouncing” his contract.
Should the Welshman become available though, Cardiff Blues have indicated he will be immediately invited to return to the Guinness Pro12 club.
“We would be extremely keen to have back a player of Leigh’s calibre and I am sure it would excite our supporters,” said Holland.
“We will be speaking to his representatives to find out the state of play regarding his contract situation and we will take things from there.”
