Car tax discs to vanish after a century in use on British roads
GEORGE Osborne confirmed his plan to save motorists five per cent on their vehicle excise duty if they pay by direct debit from 1 October 2014.
The rule change also means that drivers will no longer have to display a car tax disk in their window, but will be checked through an electronic system.
The move is set to save £7m a year in administrative costs.
Vehicle excise duties are expected to make the exchequer £6bn in the next financial year, the Office for Budget Responsibility predicted yesterday.
