Car sales in Europe rise for a record 12 consecutive months
CAR SALES across Europe have continued to rise for a record twelfth consecutive month, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.
Total new car registrations across the European Union (EU) and European Free Trade Area (EFTA) hit 701,118 in August, up 1.8 per cent on the same month last year.
For the year so far between January and August total sales in the EU and EFTA were up to 8,636,553. an increase of 5.8 per cent on the same period in 2013.
Car sales in the UK rose to 72,163 in August, up 9.4 per cent on last year, as total new car registrations between January and August in the UK rose to 1,532,335, up 10.1 per cent on the same period in 2013.
However, car sales in other major markets fell in August compared to 2013, down 2.6 per cent in France falling 0.4 per cent in Germany, and slipping 0.2 per cent in Italy.
Strong August car sales growth was seen in Spain, up 13.7 per cent, and Ireland, up 31.7 per cent.
