Capello snaps at snappers as World Cup pressure mounts
UBER-COOL Fabio Capello showed the first signs of feeling the strain yesterday after launching an astonishing verbal attack on photographers at England’s World Cup training base.
The Three Lions boss took exception to his players being filmed inside their Royal Bafokeng camp and stormed out to confront the cameramen, bellowing “Why do you take photos of the rooms? No excuses”.
After staring angrily at the snappers, Capello turned away and headed towards the training pitch to lead a behind-closed-doors session ahead of Saturday’s World Cup opener with USA. It is the first time the usually-calm Italian has lost his temper publicly, although it is believed to have stemmed from his displeasure at his squad being filmed while on safari on Tuesday.
It is also believed the room in question houses a medical area where one or two members of the squad were said to be undergoing treatment.
Thankfully, Capello looks to have a clean bill of health for the USA game with Shaun Wright-Phillips and goalkeeper David James both returning in training after recovering from slight knee injuries.
The only absentees were Ledley King and James Milner, who trained in the gym – King as a result of his on-going knee problem and Milner after recovering from a high temperature.
