Cameron pledges £2000 growth vouchers to 20,000 small firms
THE PRIME Minister will pledge additional support for small businesses in a speech at the Federation of Small Business’s (FSB) inaugural policy conference this morning.
David Cameron will promise £2,000 worth of expertise and advice to 20,000 small businesses, as part of a new growth voucher pilot scheme championed by Lord Young, the PM’s enterprise adviser. The scheme will match business leaders with mentors to help them grow, through a marketplace-style website.
Cameron will also highlight the government’s ongoing commitment to reducing red-tape in his speech in London this morning. He is expected to list a number of regulations that have been lifted, including changes to health and safety law to stop employers being sued by staff if they are insulted by a customer.
“Make no mistake, this government will support you when you need us,” Cameron is set to tell business owners, adding: “This will make it easier for you to grow, to create jobs and to help give this country the long-term security we are working towards.”
Mike Cherry, national policy chairman at the FSB said small firms are essential to the recovery of the UK economy.
