Buy Ronaldo? That’ll be €1bn
MANCHESTER United’s hopes of luring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford have suffered another blow after the Real Madrid superstar’s agent revealed that his buyout clause to be €1bn (£786m).
Ronaldo has fuelled talk of a second spell at United by speaking of his fondness for Manchester, but agent Jorge Mendes appeared to scupper that prospect yesterday by insisting the 29-year-old would finish his career in Spain – though not for some time – unless someone dwarfs the current world transfer record of £86m.
“I no longer get calls from anyone asking about Cristiano,” he said. “It’s not worth them calling to ask for it. The price is that stated in his release clause: €1bn. He will continue to improve until he is 40.”
