Burberry boss banked big bucks and bonus despite investor row
BURBERRY chief executive Christopher Bailey earned £8m last year in his first year as both chief executive and chief creative officer at the British luxury goods giant.
The design house, famous for its trench coats and check patterns, gave a detailed breakdown of Bailey’s pay package yesterday in a move seen as an attempt to appease investors ahead of its annual general meeting in July and prevent a repeat of last year’s events.
His pay was subject to a shareholder revolt at Burberry’s meeting last year, with 52 per cent voting against the directors’ remuneration report.
Burberry said his pay for 2014/15 included a £1m salary, a £1.7m bonus and £424,000 in allowances and benefits.
It offered Bailey 1m extra shares to stave off a rival’s offer in 2013.
