Inglis, who competed in the Clipper Round the World yacht race in 2013, jumps ship from Ilika, a materials technology company listed on London’s junior Alternative Investment Market.
He also holds director positions at set-top box manufacturer Pace and US-based Advanced Micro Devices.
The Birmingham University graduate also held roles with Texas Instruments, Fairchild and BIS Macintosh and gained his initial industrial experience with GEC Telecommunications.
“I’m delighted to welcome Mike to BT. He has a decade of board experience and brings with him in-depth experience of the technology industry. He will be a great asset for BT and its board,” said BT chairman Sir Michael Rake.
