BT: 12 year mobile gap at an end
BT IS getting ready to reveal its plans for a relaunch into the mobile market this week amid ongoing opposition to its purchase of EE.
The telecoms giant will be utilising EE’s network under the terms of a wholesale agreement struck prior to its £12.5bn bid for the mobile operator.
Existing customers are expected to benefit from low cost offers to induce them to signing up for the additional services in a move which threatens to significantly undercut rivals.
The company may offer some of its mobile services in “bundles” – multiple services with one tariff – a method proving popular with European consumers.
Eventually the firm is seeking to allow customers the ability to combine their home broadband and mobile services to allow mobile calls to be re-routed through fixed line internet services.
While current BT users are expected to get the best deal, the mobile service will be open for all. However, it will initially only be operating on a sim only basis.
BT abandoned the mobile market in 2002 before it spun off what later became O2.
