Brunswick man David Yelland quits to start on his own with Kitchen Table Partners
Former Sun editor turned PR guru David Yelland has left the cosy orbit of global financial PR firm Brunswick, where he was a partner for nine years, to set up his own new venture.
Described as a small communications advisory firm which counsels individuals, Yelland’s start-up Kitchen Table Partners (KTP) is one with a personal touch.
His advice has guided clients including former BP chief executive Lord Browne, MP Jack Straw during the recent cash for access scandal, and the coming-out of gay footballer Thomas Hitzlsperger. No stranger to controversy himself, Yelland openly admitting he was “drunk every night for nearly 24 years” in 2010 and has even written a book about his painful battle and recovery from alcohol addiction.
The move marks his tenth year of sobriety this July. “I know what it is like to be a leader, to have good times and bad, and how it feels to ‘be the story’,” he told The Capitalist. “Being in recovery makes me a very different person from when in newspapers: it has completely changed the way that I advise people and how I view the world.”
