Brown warns of double dip
GORDON BROWN launched yet another attack on Conservative tax and spending plans yesterday, in a bid to convince voters that a Tory emergency budget would plunge the UK into a double-dip recession.
Flanked by chancellor Alistair Darling and business secretary Lord Mandelson, the Prime Minister said Tory plans to “take money out of the economy” would “do enormous damage and put the recovery at risk”.
Darling added: “George Osborne wants to hold an emergency budget on 24 June. But he won’t tell people what will be in it.
“Since the election was called he has set out a long list of tax cuts. But he is silent on the real price to be paid for his promises.”
In a bizarre campaigning technique, Labour released a spoof radio broadcast for 25 June that purports to be a report on the consequences of the first Tory emergency budget.
