Brits on tour: It’s getting cheaper to fly to our favourite overseas destinations
With your pre-flight pint from Wetherspoon under threat, you might be of the view that it’s not worth going on holiday any more.
But cheer up – flights to our favourite destinations are becoming cheaper.
The average price of flights to Britons’ top 50 holiday destinations fell 22 per cent between 2015 and 2016, according to new research from Kayak.
Flights to Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland which has soared in popularity this year despite their humiliation of the England football team at Euro 2016, now cost 49 per cent less. It is now the fifth most popular flight destination – up 39 places on last year.

The rest of the top five is made up of: New York, with average prices down nine per cent to £415; Amsterdam, down 25 per cent to £87; Barcelona, down 18 per cent to £114; and Bangkok, down seven per cent to £407.
The data is based on searches and clicks on Kayak.co.uk for flights in the second quarter of 2016.

"Analysing the data from the second quarter of 2016, we’ve noticed a significant fall in flight prices when compared to the same time period last year, which underlines our findings from our previous quarterly flight price index, suggesting that this trend seems to be here to stay," said Annie Wilson of Kayak.
"Searches indicate that Brits are reacting to and taking advantage of the decline in prices to destinations which have seen strong average drops in the price of flights. So now may be a good time to travel to ‘hot’ destinations such as Reykjavik, Faro and Ibiza."
