Britons go on holiday in Blighty
Britons are increasingly opting for so-called “staycations” – taking a holiday in the UK rather than heading overseas. Trips taken by UK residents in England were up by 13 per cent in the first four months of 2008, according to figures released yesterday by Visit England. That amounts to 1.2m more holiday trips and over 5m extra nights’ holiday taken than in the same period of 2008. Separate figures from the Office for National Statistics confirmed that outbound travel from Britain is down 18 per cent in the same four months.
